about
I hadn't planned on releasing brand new music, but then things took a different turn. I spilled "brain to paper" what had been piling up in my head and let the momentum take over.
I believe this song needs to be out now, and not on some record that might be released in 3 years time.
"Summer is gone" was written & recorded during the last full week of October in a house in Hamburg, Germany, heavily but by no means only triggered by the current events in the Middle East.
It carries the desire to come together and unite in peace and love.
This song is literally "off the record."
It will be released on 3 November on Bandcamp and minm, with all other platforms to follow on 10 November.
It will not appear on the album that is going to land at some point.
lyrics
Summer is Gone
I'm sitting out here
In the October sun
She's flirting with me
But I know now summer is gone
The cut flowers in the aisle
At Dunnes Stores today
Smelled like funeral
There is war on the radio,
War on TV
I guess war is why religion
Never meant anything to me
I'm afraid my dream
Of peace for mankind
Is illusional
Chorus
When we rise, and take heart
When we put down the guard
All you sisters and brothers
And fathers & mothers
Who like me seem to have lost the spark
When we rise, and take heart
When we put down the guard
When it's one for another
And one for the other
We will pull ourselves out of the dark
I was driving to Killarney
On a Sunday in May
The pouring rain washed
My perception away
And all sense of belonging
I ever had
Drowned in oblivion
And it’s been like that since
And changes are few
The world keeps on spinning
Still nothing is true
That’s a constant,
For the rest is all
But a delirium
Chorus
When I'm down like this
And just want to quit
I hear the soft voice of David
He says to me: "Stay tight to the light!"
I think of death
Most every day
I never told anyone
To not scare them away
I hope it’s nothing but a slumber
From which I won't have,
I won’t have to rise again
And what about life
Are we meant to be free?
Philosophy argues
There is reason to be
While the bells they are ringing
And everyone’s thinking 'bout
How to cash in
When we rise, and take heart
When we put down the guard
All you sisters and brothers
And fathers & mothers
Who like me seem to have lost the spark
When we rise, and take heart
When we put down the guard
When it's one for all
And one for another
You sons, and daughters
Transgender and others
We will pull ourselves, pull ourselves out of the dark
I was sitting out there
In the October sun
She was flirting with me
But I know now, summer…
Summer is gone
Dino Soldo is an extraordinary musician and songwriter, who toured with Leonard Cohen, Ray Charles, Johnny Guitar Watson etc. This is his latest solo record and in my opinion his best up to date. Martin Praetorius
This is my favourite autumn record of all times. Beautiful melodies and heartbreaking lyrics, deliverd by a quite unique and soothing voice. Martin Praetorius
Gonzo. Passion. The Ming Vase. Haunting and beautiful. Every listen brings a new favorite.
Do something like this again, Miss Emma. Please let the answer be yes. Please let the answer be yes! alien9
Fiachna Winter Sun just brings me to my knees. The fiddle and flute completely summons my core to the submission of such beauty.
Just played this again after your performance with Tom Dunne and Alan Conner on The Late Late Show. Your energy on the trad song was incredible. Still grappling with a continent and an ocean keeping me at bay with the gigs of humanity being right there in Ireland. Dont Stop! David and Delfina Hernandez
“Write The Soil Lighter” is full of beguilingly mysterious folk-adjacent music, shrouded in shadow and atmospherics. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 30, 2023
